What does Broken Bread mean?

In coming up with a name for my business, I had the following in mind :

Meaning

"To break bread" is a phrase which dates back to biblical times, and is embedded in the cultures and religions originating from the biblical times of Jesus. The phrase has both practical and spiritual connotations.

History

In the ancient biblical times, bread was a staple food among many cultures, and was present at virtually every meal.

Meals

Traditionally, cutlery was rarely, if ever, used during meals. Therefore, the loaf of bread at a meal would literally have to be broken open or torn apart with one's hands to be shared with others.

Significance

Since bread was a staple and symbol of life, the act of sharing it during meals became a highly social and sometimes ceremonial act. The phrase which came to be associated with this act--"to break bread", came to mean simply to share a meal with others.

There are over 600 passages in the Old and New testaments which mention bread.

New Testament

When mentioned in the New Testament, "breaking bread" is occasionally a reference to the Last Supper, the meal Jesus Christ was said to have shared with his disciples before his death.

i. To engage in a comfortable, friendly interaction. Originally, the term was literal, meaning that a loaf of bread would be broken to share and eat; a casual meal among associates.
ii. The term later came to be more figurative, but referred to the same situation: a shared meal. Used as a colloquialism to describe any meal that did or did not involve bread.
iii.Today, the term is used to describe a social interaction where something is shared. This could be food, money, commodities, assets, or other various items.
iv.To break bread is to affirm trust, confidence, and comfort with an individual or group of people. Breaking bread has a notation of friendliness and informality, derived from the original meaning regarding sharing the loaf.
